Apparently, Ms. Schroeder is not the only one. The Financial Times has also reported on a growing trend of MBAs (many of whom, notably, are HBS graduates) finding success in e-commerce fashion, marketed to businesswomen. HBS classmates Wilkis Wilson and Alexis Maybank, for example, launched the popular discounted designer retail company Gilt Groupe in November 2007. Similarly, Alex Nelson and Christina Wallace, also HBS graduates, launched Quincy Apparel in September of last year. (We should note that Jennifer Hyman and Jenny Fleiss, also of HBS, launched Rent the Runway, targeted at a younger demographic.) Females in single parent homes as opposed to intact ones are 53% more likely to marry as teenagers, 111% more likely to have children as teenagers and 92% more likely to divorce if they marry (Krohn Bogan, 599). The mother is not completely left out of this scenario though. When there is an absent father, the response of the mother is an important one in helping the child cope more easily. It was the first time I was in this part of Europe, and I was pretty excited to see what is waiting for me. I heard many stories about the Bosnian war, but I was positively surprised while I was driving with a cab around the city. Moreover, it looks quite modern, though truth be told, here and there you can see the scars of the war. The hotel where I stayed is the greatest building in Bosnia, called The Avaz Twist Tower . The view was truly majestic. I arrived at the time when Bosnia was stricken with euphoria. For the first time in history football team qualified for the World Cup, and the whole city was excited . My stay was supposed to last four days, and for the four days I was supposed to see all the magic this city has. I must admit that weather was not so well. You could definitely feel the winter, especially because Sarajevo is a city located in the valley and surrounded with mountai ns. Because I’ve never been there, I found a private guide named Emir. Violence is also a huge issue around the world, but is more generally seen in conflicted neighborhoods. Violence can also be interpret as solving problems with their fists, these ways of solutions are used by many kids and they get it from the neighborhood they are growing up in. Violence is a major influence on children because of the neighborhood they are growing up in. To reiterate, there are many reasons tor why children can be driven to Juvenile elinquencies but the main reason is neighborhoods because of gangs, drugs and violence. Children when growing up in bad neighborhoods are exposed to many things because gangs, drugs and violence are in bad neighborhoods. Many children move into more and more bad neighborhoods and are being exposed to gangs, drugs and violence. There are some solutions that we can approach to stop kids from getting involved in these bad influences. One solution is providing programs like the Big Brother Big Sister program to have a role model to guide them down the right path. Another solution is reducing the gangs in neighborhoods and getting them off he streets. If we were able to develop a program were low income families can be located to good neighborhoods and have an agreement to live their instead of a bad neighborhood that would fix the problem. Though there are many solutions making them come true is a different story but there are many programs out there that provide kids with the help and attention they need.

For instance, the Springfield Remanufacturing Corporation (SRC) one of Americas most successful small companies still has their hiring process as a group activity. SRC adopts a non-traditional method of recruitment by having all of their applicants have five or six interviews with various individuals that he or she might be working with (Denton, 1992, p. 18). Recruitment through Reputation The reputation of the company is also one of the leading factors in which highly knowledgeable and skilled employees will desire to work for the aforementioned. These programs allow companies and organizations to establish partnerships between business and schools which may involve elementary school, vocational school or even a university (Denton, 1992, p. 5). The main value of such programs is the establishment of closer relationships between schools and in a macro perspective, creating better understanding businesses and industry. More importantly, partnerships such as like these, would allow companies to easily recruit personnels that can improve the companys image that could help the prospective applicants to view your companys business as a career, hence a better chance of creating a wide labor pool (Denton, 1992, p. 26). Employee Retention If finding good people is hard, so as looking for ways to make them stay. One of the companies that have displayed such an admirable trait is Federal Express, wherein they have emphasized the importance of retention, recruitment and employee relations (Dibble, 1999). If a particular company is very careful in terms of recruiting, there is also a relatively better match of keeping them. One best way of doing such is the company centralizing all of its recruitment centers (Denton, p. 47). After which, they provide immense value on putting their people first on their list. Good employee relations for Federal Express involve deeds that impress employees and improve relations (Denton, p. 48). According to Fred Smith, CEO of Federal Express, I think a lot of companies talk about how their employees are their most important asset, but where you can really tell whether it is very important or not is how much their senior management spends on the issues ( Trunick 1989, 19 as cited from Denton, 1992, p. 48). Also, their Suggestion Awards Program allow employees to participate in the management process by sharing their ideas that will enable the company to improve its operations. Any idea implemented that will lower costs, increase productivity, revenues or promote safer working conditions will receive recognition and $100 to $25,000 worth of cash (p. 49). Communications Open Communication among employees is also vital to solve a problem. The internal employee response program allows employees to find answers to situations that they perceived as something that is disagreeable, controversial or is contrary to existing policies. If employees express negative concerns about their work or with the management, the latter is expected to respond within 14 days. These concerns are assured to be forwarded to the CEO (p. 50). Lessons from the Great Depression Progressive Era Lessons from the Great Depression Progressive Era The Progressive Era in American history began slightly before the turn of the 20th century and continued into the second decade of the 20th century, ending around the beginning of World War I. The Great Depression of 20th century American occurred in 1929 and the more intense short-term effects lasted up and through World War II. The paper will scrutinize specific events of this period providing insight, elaboration, and analysis. One major turning point during this period of American history was the significant changes happening in the American population. Reconstruction was over; the country began its attempts at a stoic integration. Yet during this period, numerous American blacks migrated around the country. Many moved into urban areas on the coast and the Midwest. African American flourished for the first time out from under formalized, institutional slavery and the Harlem Renaissance ensued during this period. In addition to th e migration of American blacks, during this period, millions of people immigrated into the United States of America, many of whom entered the country via Ellis Island in New York City. Over five million people from all over the world, but with particular concentrations from Europe and Asia, moved into the country and changed the demographics of the country in ways that are evident in the 21st century.
